Alert Details

This fraud alert could potentially affect any Vermont credit union.

Over the past several days, several members of a credit union located in Chittenden County have received phone calls notifying them that their “card” with the credit union has been deactivated.  They've been told that in order to resolve the matter, they need to immediately call (866) 280-6420, where they are met by an automated answering service which prompts them to disclose or enter sensitive financial and personal information.

In addition to members of the credit union, the phone calls were also received by non-members.  They reference that a “card” was deactivated but there is no indication of the card's type (i.e. credit or debit).

The credit union is not aware that any information was compromised, but in the interest of helping other credit unions, the CEO has asked us to pass the information along.  The credit union has been in contact with BISCHA and the VT Attorney General’s office about the matter.

If AVCU learns anything more about this situation, or if we are informed that other credit unions are involved, we will update this fraud alert.
